In this tour, you will start at Chinchero pass (4,000masl) 45 minutes away from the city of Cusco; then you will bike toward Moray a stunning Inca ruin used for agricultural experimentation; Moray is rounded by Inca terraces built in the bottom of the Mountain, for this stunning structure the Incas took advantage of a natural depression formed by the nature; Then you will visit Maras village and the Salt Mine in Maras.

Itinerary

DETAILED TOUR ITINERARY

Cusco Mountain bike begins when we’ll pick you up from your hotel at 08:00 a.m and we take our van for 45 minutes until Chinchero Pass (4,000 masl). Along the trip, we will stop to take pictures of the Vilcanota Mountain range with many snow-capped mountains some of them over 5,000 masl. We’ll start the adventure biking downwards accompanied with spectacular Andean landscapes surrounding “Huaypo Lagoon”.

one hour after, we will arrive to Moray where you will have option to visit this extraordinary Inca remains; continuing the adventure we’ll head towards the village of Maras where the streets are decorated with wonderful doorway from the colonial time; here also our lunch will be served and after a good rest we will continue towards the salt mines of Maras where you will see over 4,000 small pools used to collect the salt. We’ll pass through this marvelous site and we head down to Tarabamba (small town) where will wait for us our transport to return to Cusco. We will arrive to Cusco at 04:00 p.m approximately.

CHINCHERO:

Chinchero is a very colourful village located in the province of Cusco at 28 kilometers from the city of Cusco and surrounded by patchwork style fields of exquisite natural colours. Chinchero is a charming town, with colonial style constructions and was a major agricultural center during the Inca times or Tawantinsuyo time. One might enjoy the stone walls with trapezoidal niches that provide the setting for the traditional market, where they still practice bartering. Chinchero’s women can always be recognized for their very distinguishing clothing and braided hair. The famous church and archeological site here requires the tourist ticket.

MORAY:

Moray is not just an Inca ruin, Temple or Palace, it is a unique Inca construction located beyond Maras village; to get to this place we will drive to the beautiful snow-capped mountains of “Chicon and La Veronica” in the Vilcanota mountain range. In Moray, we’ll visit “the Inca agricultural greenhouse or laboratory”, consisting of four platforms amphitheater style or. Has a depth of 150 meters, the overlapping concentric circular stone rings widen as they rise. It was an experimental place to study the adaptation of plants to new ecosystems.

MARAS / SALINERAS:

Located 7 miles from Moray at altitude of 3, 380 masl is a small village, as a model of a miniature city. Famous for its salt mines, made up of about 3,000 small wells with an area average size of about 5 m². These were already exploited since Inca times as a means of economic exchange and securities. Very interesting to see how the salt is recovered from these mines and the lives of those who work here.

For “Cusco Mountain bike” adventure we’ll require a non-refundable trek deposit of 40% per person.     This trip goes above 2,800 meters / 9,200 feet where it is common for travellers to experience some adverse effects in their health due to the altitude.     Can I Travel Solo?

    Yes, in fact many of our travellers choose to travel solo as our trips offer a fantastic opportunity to meet new people. This is a group trip, so there’ll be other people to share the experience with – you’re never truly travelling alone! You can also travel with a friend or partner, however you choose to participate you’re sure to have an amazing time!

    Can I Opt For My Own Room?

      The 5 Pieces litter collection initiative, where travellers collect 5 or more pieces of plastic or paper litter on the trail each day, is offered on all of our treks. This simple yet effective initiative harnesses the collective power of tourists to keep wilderness trails clean and to educate local communities about the negative impact of litter on their environment and tourism economy.

    • Porter welfare policies

      All porters that we employ receive a good working wage that is regulated by the Trekking Agents Association of Peru and the Labor ministry of Peru, paying as per their guidelines, which are unionized. We are one of the only trekking companies in Peru to provide porters with three meals a day, prepared by our cooks, as well as lodging or tents, sleeping mats and sleeping bags. Porters receive income protection and life insurance and have access to the same first aid care that travellers receive including emergency evacuation if required. Porters are provided with a wind and waterproof jacket and over-trousers, leather or canvas shoes and a warm cap, and carry a maximum of 20kgs in provided backpacks.
