Trek Itinerary
Deatiled Trek Itinerary About 7-Day Espiritupampa Trekking.
Day 1: Cusco – Abra Malaga – Santa María – Huancacalle.
7-Day Espiritupampa Trekking begins when we pick you up from your hotel in the city of Cusco at 6:30am; the we travel by car through the Sacred Valley of the Incas, up to abra Malaga (4300 masl / 14108 ft); from where begin our steep descent into the high jungle of the southern Andes. We’ll cross fields of fruit trees, coca plantations, tea, coffee and many other tropical plans and diverse biodiversity.
4-hours after we’ll arrive in the village of Santa Maria where we will have a short rest; There is time for snacks and use toiles in the local market or in one restaurant. Then, we’ll continue our journey for 2:30 hours by car passing several small but picturesque villages until we arrive in the town of Huancacalle (2995 masl / 9826 ft), Here we’ll have lunch and rest before our walk in the afternoon to the impressive Inca site of “Vitcus” called to as “Rosaspata” due to the color of the walls.
We begin our trek taking a trail which leads us to the archaeological site of Vitcos. This important site, is where the leader Manco Inca II was killed by the Spanish conquistadores; half hour from Vitcus we’ll visit the ceremonial Inca sites of Ñusta Hispana. Here we find water channels, some ruined buildings, and the White Rock or the “Yurac Rumi”: an amazing carved stone with a representation of the Chakana or Inca Cross, as well as other carvings.
After all, we’ll return to Huancacalle following an original Inca trail, to have dinner and spend the night.

Day 2: Huancacalle – Vilcabamba La Nueva – Abra Collpajasa – Ututo.
Week up with a cup of tea or coffee in your tent, which your cook will bring you, and start to fix your duffle bag for the horses. After breakfast we leave Huancacalle camp and hike through the valley a gentle up to village called New Vilcabamba, founded by the Spanish in the time of the conquest. We follow the path uphill, crossing different ecological zone a notorious landscape change until we arrive to the highest pass called “Collpajasa” pass (3860m / 12664 ft.); this is the highest point on our entire trek.
After we take picture and rest in the pass We begin our descent, through an extensive framing land where we can appreciate different varieties of local crops. We’ll continue zigzag trail down crossing several times by modern route road. We’ll follow a beautiful trail with many photo opportunities. The trail arrives to a fully forested valley, through which is running a small river named Pampaconas. We’ll note that the environment changes rapidly from high Andes to beginning of the Amazon jungle. The hike will continue until we arrive to the zone name “Ututo”, where we’ll set up our camp. Here exists a good camp site with clean water and template climax. Today is going to be the hardest day due to the altitude and the distance we walk.

Day 3: Camp of Ututo – Huayna Pukara – Vista Alegre.
After healthy and strong, we leave our campsite and continue trekking through a picturesque River/valley until we arrive to the small Inca site called Huayna Pukara known as the last point of resistance by the Inca army during the period of Spanish conquest. A spectacular location for this last stand through an ambush, which was betrayed with the previous Spanish victory. The trek continues through a semi-tropical forest with great environment: Flores and reach wildlife.
Continue walking through splendid mountain-panorama we finally will arrive to the community of Vista Alegre; the inhabitants we’ll welcome us and we can visit the school and some local families. Here we’ll setup our camp

Day 4: Trekking from Vista Alegre community to Concebidayoc.
Today we’ll start very early; After breakfast we’ll continue our trekking following the legendary route of the last rebel Incas fleeing the Spanish invasion (4 Incas where the rebels -know it: Manco Inca, Sairy Tupac, Titu Cusi and Tupac Amaru I). We will enjoy this Inca Trail passing a fascinating rainforest where flora and fauna join the history to complete this memorable experience. Tre trekking today passes beautiful mountain scenery and great biodiversity with reach wildlife. The trail is manly down with little ups until we arrive to our campsite in the zone of Concebidayoq on where we will dinner and camp.

Day 5: Trek from Concebidayoc to Espiritupampa.
Afte breakfast served by the kitchen team and after three really long, intense days of hiking we get a well-deserved break! From Concevidayoc we will hike for about 3 hours until we reach the archaeological site of Espiritu Pampa (1400m /4593ft). Here we can admire the remains of the archaeological site, the last Inca Capital. We will spend most of the day here. Espiritu Pampa is an especially intriguing site as most of it remains shrouded in vegetation, adding to its mystique.
Today we’ll walk by the impressive Inca steps known as the zone of “Thousand Steps”, which is an impressive Inca trail leading to the site of Espiritupampa. We also will explore the pre-Inca and the Inca sections. Probably the most impressive will be to explore the main cemetery where in the year of 2011 where found the lord of “Wary” civilization known as the lord of Espiritupampa. Who was found with impressive garments and many offerings that includes gold and silver ornaments.

Day 6: Espiritupampa – Kiteni.
From Espiritupampa we continue walk for 1:30 hour to the community of Chontabamba from where we’ll take the car for 1.30-hours to the village of kiteni where we will spend the night in a basic hostel.
Day 7: Travel from Kiteni to Quillabamba – Cusco.
After breakfast we Leave the village of Kiteni then, we will take a bus to Quillabamba (4h); we take the bus at around 8am, we stop for lunch in the biggest town of the region, Quillabamba from where we’ll take the final transpot to Cusco 7 -8 hours. We arrive to Cusco around 6-7pm.

Pre-trek briefing:
- It will be performed in our office or in your hotel at 6:30pm, one day before your 7-Day Espiritupampa Trekking. During the briefing your guide will inform you all about the trekking and will check your equipment and will deliver a duffle bag for every traveler. Also you will pay the remaining balance. The briefing will las for about half hour. If you have any question about the trekking, you can clarify here with you guide.
Accommodation:
- Camping Tents: 2 people in a 4-person tent, allowing for greater comfort and backpack storage!
- Air mattress. For a greater comfort during the trek we include inflatable mattress.
- Toilet tent.
Meals:
- Dining tent with camp tables and chairs; and kitchen tent for the cook to prepare meals
- Cook and cooking equipment, plus assistants for larger groups.
- Meals as indicated in the itinerary. Our professional cooks prepare a combination of traditional Peruvian and Western cuisine. Talk to your guide if you have certain preferences! Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options available. When served, salads are washed in boiled water.

Please Note: We’ll provide you a duffle bag, which will be transported by the horses from camp to camp. You’ll trek every day with your small backpack where you’ll carry your items for the day.
For 7-Day Espiritupampa Trekking, we recommend that you bring the following items with you:
- A fleece or down jacket is an essential item at this elevation;
- Hiking trousers with zip off shorts are a good idea, as day time temperatures can be quite warm, yet temperatures plummet as soon as the sun goes down. You can supplement these with leggings or thermals to wear underneath;
- A rain poncho or waterproof jacket is also important. It can rain or even snow at certain times of the year! Especially if you travel from November to March.
- Water-resistant trekking boots are advisable. The trail on this hike can sometimes be muddy and wet, so we also recommend to bring extra socks!
- A warm sleeping bag, rated to -15°C (5°F). If you prefer, you can rent one from us;
- A headlamp or torch;
- A high factor (SPF) sunscreen, a sun cap and sunglasses. The sun can be really strong, especially in dry season. Sun protection is essential!
- Mosquito repellent
- A small daypack to carry your necessary items for each day’s hiking (30lts.).

Safety is the most important thing for us. That’s why this is one area where we simply make no compromises when it comes to keeping the cost of our hikes down. Our guides have been selected on the basis of their technical skills, proven safety performance, impeccable judgment, friendly demeanor, and ability to provide helpful and expert instruction. They are also very professional and well trained in first aid and personal protective equipment. First aid kits are available on all treks. Also, the routes are ideally designed to give you enough time to acclimatize.
Although the intention is to stick to the route described, a certain degree of flexibility is built in. In some cases, it may be necessary to change the path here and there. The mountains are full of surprises and the weather is unpredictable. The guides continuously carry out risk assessments throughout the expedition. Therefore, it is preferable to plan a certain number of additional days for possible unforeseen events.

Cancellation policy.
You wish you didn’t have to, but there’s no other way: you end up having to cancel your plans. In this case, you lose your deposit, but since you haven’t paid the large sum yet, at least you save it. Please let us know if you can’t come. A no-show may be a minor disaster for your trekking provider, who have gone to great lengths to block your dates.

Essential Information for 7-day Espiritupampa Trekking
The briefing:
All briefings will take place in our office or in your hotel at 6.00 p.m. The day before your 7-day Espiritupampa Trekking. If you can’t make this time, you should coordinate another time with a member of “Sunrise Peru Trek” office team. The Information sessions will last approximately 30 to 45 minutes and where you will receive your duffel bags. Also, if you have some questions you can clarify with your guide.
Hotel Pick up:
We are one of the few companies that pick you up directly from your hotel. While your hotel is in the center of the city of Cusco, we will coordinate this collection according to the time that your guide will discuss during the briefing. Collection times can vary from 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic conditions and previous pick-ups.
Cusco is an old town with cobbled streets and very narrow passages. Small hotels are often found on streets that cars can’t cross. They are also frequently found on slopes with long and steep climbs, making it difficult to transport luggage. We strongly recommend that you book accommodation with better access.
Return to Cusco:
After the trek our private transport with your guide will drop you off in your hotel in Cusco.
The Trekking Groups:
The 7-day Espiritupampa Trekking group depends on the number of persons. Normally, we take 2 to 12 persons in a group. However, if you are in a bigger group of more than 12 persons, we can manage the Trekking accordingly. The maximum number “12” is the outcome of generally organized group treks. But, we are good at organizing treks for any group size you require.
Besides the trekking group, we have our local staffs to assist you as well. Trekking does not just mean traveling around; it will be more rewarding if you can gain good bunch of information of the areas you travel. So, we provide you with guides for that and in order to assure easy travel experience, we have porters and horses who would carry on your luggage.
Accommodations:
Our overnight stay will be on top quality tents, twin sharing four season tents. Camping is classic style of trekking can be conducted almost anywhere in the country. The camping trekking is based on the trekking where the night will be resting at the camps. Camps are set up at the various areas of the trail.
Our team of leaders, guides, cooks and porters will accompany our clients and take care of all the technical and logistical part during the camping. We will provide in large comfortable domed tents with thick foam mattresses on thinner insulation liners with stools and table for meals. We will have our meals at the camps where our cooks prepared and serve scrumptious meals for our clients.
Meals:
Our 7-day Espiritupampa Trekking would let you experience typical Peruvian food, special mountain foods and other cuisines including international cuisine like Chines, Mexican and Italian. If you are vegetarian or you require especial diet don’t worry, we have excellent alternative menu. We provide the full board meals while on the 7-day Espiritupampa Trekking. A variety of cereals, bread and egg dishes are generally available for breakfast. Lunch is generally a selection of salad, cooked vegetable dishes, pasta and traditional breads.
Plenty and healthy dinner comprises of soup, variety of vegetable, meat, rice and pasta dishes etc. as per your section and as available. Tea or coffee is also provided at all meals. Climate:
The weather is unpredictable. Cusco’s dry season is normally from April to October, but this does not prevent the rain from falling in May or the weather turning warm in December. That’s why we always want you to come prepared. No matter what month you are hiking, make sure you have rain gear including a waterproof jacket, pants, poncho, and waterproof gloves. Gloves tend to be what most people forget about.
You have to be prepare for the four seasons. Our 7-day Espiritupampa involve walking through many microclimates that force you to prepare for all seasons. Having layers between each garment is the key, because they are really easy to adjust to different temperatures. Evenings will always be chilly due to the elevation, so you’ll need to bring a warm winter jacket.
Safety and Precaution:
Trek to Espiritu Pampa in 7 days and 6 nights, is a demanding trekking across the Andes and you probably will suffer the altitude Mountain Sickness. It is important to acclimatize to the altitude we normally recommended stay in Cusco or similar altitude at less two days.
We also have a Trekking Package package that includes acclimatization program. Health Issues:
Regarding health issues, if you do not travel often, you are likely to get Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Going up high at faster pace is too harmful and can be fatal as well because of less oxygen. Some general symptoms of AMS are
