The traditional reed boats, vibrant handicrafts, and the warm hospitality of the locals make a tour of Lake Titicaca an unforgettable experience.
The Andean mountains, stretching along the western coast of South America, are known for their stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage. Lake Titicaca is a prime example of this, with its picturesque setting and fascinating history.
At an altitude of 3,812 meters (12,507 feet), Lake Titicaca is not only the highest navigable lake in the world, but also one of the largest. Its vast expanse stretches over 8,300 square kilometers and lies across the borders of Peru and Bolivia. The lake is fed by a number of rivers and streams, including the Ramis River, which flows from Lake Huinaimarca in Peru.
According to Incan mythology, Lake Titicaca is believed to be the birth place of the sun god, Inti. This sacred significance and the lake’s natural beauty have drawn people to its shores for thousands of years. These unique islands are made entirely out of layers of totora reeds, which grow abundantly in the lake. The Uros people use these reeds for everything from building their homes and boats to crafting colorful handicrafts.
