Today, Lima remains a vibrant hub, home to one of the oldest higher learning institutions in the New World.

Unforgettable experiences await – from visiting historical monuments and archaeological sites to checking out local markets. Our city tour will give you an unforgettable introduction to the city.

Visit Cusco Historical Inca and Spanish Monuments:

The Main Square: Known in Inca times as Huacaypata or “meeting place,” the Main Square was an important ceremonial spot where the Inti Raymi, or Festival of the Sun, was celebrated every year. It is also the place where Francisco Pizarro proclaimed the conquest of Cusco, witnessing several key events in the city’s history. Following the Spanish arrival, the plaza underwent changes, with the erection of stone arches and the construction of surrounding structures.

The Cathedral: Originally built on the site of the old temple of Suntur Wasi (House of God) and the remains of the palace of Inca Wiracocha, the Cathedral captures attention with its choir cloisters, the pulpit, and the engravings on the altar and furniture. A Renaissance building adorned with rich cedar and woodcarvings, it also houses a significant collection of paintings from the Cusco School and silver wrought pieces.

The Church and Convent of Santo Domingo: A Spanish construction belonging to the Dominican Order, this site was built upon the foundations of the Inca temple of Koricancha or Temple of the Sun. Renowned as one of the main religious buildings of the Incas, Koricancha was constructed with magnificently carved stone blocks dedicated to the worship of the Sun and other Incan deities. According to Spanish chroniclers, its walls were once plated with sheets of gold and silver. The Dominican convent also features an art gallery with valuable 17th and 18th-century canvasses.

Visit the Archaeological Inca Sites Surrounding Cusco:

Sacsayhuamán: This enormous Inca fortress was constructed on three overlapping platforms, each extending over 360 meters (1180 feet) long. Renowned for the massive size of some of its stones, which weigh between 90 and 120 tons, Sacsayhuamán serves as the stage for the Inti Raymi or “Festival of the Sun” every June 24th.

Tambomachay: Believed to be a site dedicated to the worship of water and the regeneration of the land.

Kenko: Said to have been a worship site, Kenko features a 5.9-meter (19 feet) high stone block. This religious complex contains passages, canals, and stairways with stone engravings representing animals.

Puca Pucará: Functioning as an administrative and military center, formed by terraces, stairways, passages, turrets, and vaulted niches.

Packing List

Your Packaging List

What you should bring will vary depending on the travel style you have chosen and when you travel. We recommend that you pack your luggage as light as possible, making sure that you can carry and lift your own luggage and walk with it short distances or go up or down stairs. Help will be available in most places, but there may be times when you need to manage your own luggage, for example at airports and train stations. A lockable suitcase on wheels is ideal for this trip. It is recommended to keep the weight of your main luggage around 15 kg and certainly no more than 20 kg. A small to medium sized backpack (45-50 liters) is another good option. You will also need a small backpack (30 liters) to carry water, a camera, a jacket, etc. when you explore during the day. Below is a link to our ultimate packing list, a guide to get started:

Travel Documents

  • Passport
  • Visa if necessary
  • Travel insurance policy
  • 24-hour emergency travel insurance policy and contact number
  • Electronic airline tickets

  • Photocopies of important documents
  • Replacement passport photos
  • Youth / Student / Senior Cards for travel discounts
  • International driver’s license if required

  • Padlocks and keys

Personal Items

  • First aid kit
  • Medications / personal prescriptions

The Packing List

After asking our customers who have been traveling around Cusco and Machu Picchu, we have come up with our definitive list of what to pack for a trip to Lima, Arequipa, Puno, Cusco and Machu Picchu.

  • A Good Pair of Hiking Boots or Walking Shoes – This is not the place to bring high heels, ladies! Steps and uneven cobblestone surfaces abound, and if it rains, the stones can get slippery.
  • A Poncho for Those Downpours – The weather changes very quickly here. An ideal solution is to carry a good quality poncho in your daypack at all times, particularly during the rainy season from November to March.
  • A Warm Jacket – Evenings and mornings can be very cold, particularly between June and September, so a good quality, waterproof, and ideally windproof jacket is essential. Another good option is a warm fleece which you can wear under a lightweight waterproof, windproof jacket.
  • Good Quality Sunscreen and a Sunhat – Due to the altitude and Peru’s location close to the equator, frequent application of sunscreen is advised to avoid any nasty sunburn.
  • Clothes That You Can Layer – Cool mornings mean you may want to wrap up as you set off for a day’s exploring; however, by 11am, you might want to strip down to a t-shirt and shorts. Warm layers and trousers that can be unzipped into shorts are great.
  • A Day-Pack to Carry All Your Bits and Pieces – Ideally with a hip strap to make long days hiking and exploring more comfortable.
  • A Water Bottle – Plastic disposal is a real problem in the Sacred Valley, so we recommend you buy large bottles and refill water into your own reusable bottle.
  • Small First Aid Kit for Basic Cuts and Bruises and Tummy Upsets – Pharmacies abound in Cusco and other small towns in the Sacred Valley where you can buy basic first aid and medical supplies. Ensure that you bring enough of any prescription medicine you might need, as some brands and types of medicine might not be available in Peru.
  • A Small Pocket-Sized Torch
  • Earplugs for when you are stuck in a noisy room or want to sleep on the bus or plane.
  • A Duckpack or Rainproof Covering for Your Daypack or Backpack – This is particularly important if you are going to do any multi-day hiking, including the Inca Trail.
  • A Hat, Scarf, and Gloves for Those Cold Mornings and Evenings – You can buy fabulous Peruvian style hats and gloves at the local markets, so don’t worry if you forget to bring these with you.
  • Pack Your Toiletries in Zip-Lock Bags – The altitude can cause shampoo and other bottles to pop, leaving a nasty mess in your bag. Pack all toiletries in sealed bags to avoid any unnecessary mess.
  • Insect Repellent – Particularly if you plan on going trekking or visiting Machu Picchu.
  • Camera – With lots of memory and battery for all those great shots you are definitely going to want to take.
  • Padlocks – Take enough padlocks for every double zipper to stop wandering hands and lock up your important belongings, even in your hotel room.

10 kilos suitcases:

When it comes to traveling, one of the most important things to consider is your luggage. The amount and type of baggage you bring can greatly affect your travel experience. Whether you’re going on a short weekend trip or a long-term vacation, having the right suitcase is crucial. One common measurement for suitcases is weight, with many airlines having strict restrictions on how much baggage you can bring without incurring additional fees.

This has led to the popularity of the “10 kilos suitcase”, referring to a suitcase that weighs 10 kilograms or fewer when fully packed. But what exactly can fit into a 10 kilos suitcase? It may seem like a small amount, but with smart packing strategies and careful selection of items, you can actually fit quite a lot.

Essentials such as a week’s worth of clothing, a pair of shoes, toiletries, and even a compact travel guide can all be accommodated within this weight limit. By rolling clothes to maximize space, opting for travel-sized toiletries, and wearing your bulkiest items during transit, you can make the most of your 10 kilos suitcase and travel light without skimping on what you need.

Essential Info.

Essential Tour Info About 10-Day Peru Express Tour

Please read the following tour information carefully, as it will help you answer some of your questions about our services and the 10-Day Peru Express Tour.

Arrival in Lima

Upon arriving in Lima, the vibrant capital city of Peru, you will be met by one of our friendly tour representatives at Jorge Chavez International Airport. They will provide you with all necessary information and assist with your transfer to the hotel. Lima, often referred to as the “City of Kings,” boasts a rich history and a blend of colonial and modern architecture. Your accommodation will be located in the heart of Miraflores, a district renowned for its scenic coastal cliffs, upscale shopping, and bustling nightlife. The first evening will be at your leisure, allowing you to unwind from your journey or explore the local attractions at your own pace. Dinner recommendations and optional guided tours will be available upon request.

The Briefing

A briefing for the 10-Day Peru Express Tour will be held the night before the trek at 6 pm in either our office or your hotel. During the briefing, you will meet your trekking guide and have the chance to ask any questions or address any concerns you might have. Additionally, you will settle the remaining balance of the tour. This meeting is essential to ensure that you are well-prepared and informed about the upcoming adventure.

Can I Store My Luggage in Your Office?

Yes, you can absolutely store your luggage in our office! We understand that when travelers embark on the 10-Day Peru Express Tour package, they are likely to have multiple bags with them. To make things easier for both us and you while on the trail, we recommend that only the necessary items be brought in small duffel bags that we provide. This way, your main luggage can remain safely stored until you return from this amazing experience. Alternatively, if it’s more convenient for you, your luggage can also be kept at your hotel.

Can I Change the Date After I Purchase the Ticket?

Unfortunately, the answer to your question is a definitive NO. The Peruvian government does not allow any changes to be made after tickets have been purchased. This means that neither the date nor the person who purchases the ticket can be changed once it has already been bought. The permits are also non-transferable and non-refundable, so if you choose to cancel your 10-Day Peru Express Tour package, then your deposit will not be refunded in any form whatsoever. It’s important to double-check your plans before making a purchase to ensure they won’t change afterward, as changing them later is not possible under any circumstances according to Peru’s government regulations. To avoid disappointment, it is strongly recommended that everyone makes sure their itinerary is firm before submitting payment and buying their permit, even if something beyond their control comes up afterward, there will no longer be an option for changing those plans without having lost that money. So, before making any purchase or finalizing your travel plans, make sure to double-check and confirm all details to avoid any inconvenience. We appreciate your understanding in this matter.

Do I Need My Original Passport?

Yes, you absolutely need to have your original passport for the 10-Day Peru Express Tour. This is because of the importance of having the exact same passport that you provided with your booking permit before entering Machu Picchu. Your passport will be verified when you enter Machu Picchu, when embarking on the Inca Trail, and also while boarding your train. If you are renewing your passport, feel free to send us a copy of your old passport prior to getting a new one so that we can secure the permit beforehand – and then once you get it, kindly send us a copy of it as soon as possible. Being aware is extremely important in this kind of situation due to all restrictions enforced by Peru authorities having strict regulations revolving around documentation required for entering such sites – such as passports being mandatory during check-in times at these archaeological areas – so do keep in mind that it’s best if you have two original copies available (one extra just in case).

Health Recommendations

It is essential to consider your health and how the altitude may affect you during the 10-Day Peru Express Tour. Drink plenty of water, and avoid heavy or greasy meals. It is also recommended to avoid alcohol and smoking during the acclimatization period. If you have a medical condition or are taking prescription medication, consult your doctor prior to departure and carry all necessary medication in your carry-on luggage. Remember that your health is paramount to enjoying the wonders of this journey.
