The Qoricancha ceremony lasts for approximately an hour, immersing you in the rich culture and history of the Incas. A procession then commences towards the Main Square, where the city’s guardians and imperial army await inspection by the generals. Prepare to be enthralled as the Incas conduct another sacred ritual. The esteemed “Sapa Inca” is carried on a litter by devoted servants.

About the Inti Raymi in Cusco - Peru

The Inti Raymi is the main Inca festival celebrated in the city of Cusco in Peru; it is celebrated near the every winter solstice or during the shortest day of the year; on this day the Incas made sacrifice of the llama and offer especial things to the SUN God. The Incas were considered natural children of the SUN; to obey his existence they should correspond with sacrifices and spetial offerings.

The Inca festival of Inti Raymi is celebrated currently every June 24th as the most solemn and grandiose celebration of the late Inca Empire. The  main stage of the Inti Raymi is the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, located at 3 km to the north of the city of Cusco.

According to the chronicler “Inca Garcilaso de la Vega”, Sacsayhuaman is “the largest and most magnificent work that the Incas ordered the construction to show their power and majesty.” The Inca Emperor Pachacutec ordered the construction of the Qoricancha, a magnificent temple to revere the Sun God to whom the Incas called it “Apu Punchao or Apu Inti”, in whose honor was consecrated for the festival of Inti Raymi, which reaches contours of solemnity and splendor, as the most important chroniclers described. The “Inti Raymi” Festival is one of the grandest of Incas festivals and attracts the largest audience.

Featuring dances performed by trained people and laymen in amazing masks and costumes; The Inti Raymi day tour is one of the best ways to experience the ancient living culture of the Incas. This festival also provides a great opportunity to witness locals gathered in their finest stile in a celebration of their culture and faith.

Here the celebration begins at 11.00am and the duration time is one hour.

3.- SAQSAYWAMAN.- A very nice Inca temple located at 3 kms from the city of Cusco; here is the most important celebration of the Inti Raymi, here the local government prepared a numerated seats. “Sacsaywaman”  is a “Quechua” name which translated into Spanish means “falcon, satiate”. Here the ceremony begins at 13:30pm and the duration time is 1:45 hours.

The INCA for Inti Raymi

The representation of the Incas during the festival, is one of Pachacutec  Inca in whom the Sun God (Inti) reveals his might and strength. The armies come from the four quarters (Suyos) of Tahuantinsuyo (the Inca Empire) and there are different ceremonies for the fire, the sacred coca leaf, and the  chicha, a drink made of corn.

The traditional route About the Inti Raymi Day Tour:

The Inti Raymi is performed in three stages, it begins in the temple of the sun known as the “Qoricancha” then it is moved to the main square from where everyone takes a car up to the Inca site of “Sacsayhuaman” where is performed the most Important part of the festival.
