Settings for Inti Raymi Day Tour

Inti Raymi Festival Settings

The Inti Raymi festival of 24th of June has three different sceneries and we recommended go early to have the best locations at “Qoricancha” and the Main square.

1. The “QORIKANCHA”

The Qorikancha, or Temple of the Sun, is a sacred Incan site once adorned with gold and silver, symbolizing the sun god Inti’s power. This temple not only served as a worship center but also showcased Incan craftsmanship. The ceremony starts at 9:00 a.m. and lasts for 45 minutes, initiating the Inti Raymi celebrations with vibrant performances that honor the sun. Arriving early will enhance your experience of this significant event.

2. The “HAUHAYPATA” or the Main Square

The Hauhaypata, once larger than it is now, was the heart of Incan society. At its center was the Usno, a ceremonial platform for key festivities like Inti Raymi. Celebrations kick off here at 11:00 a.m., lasting about an hour. As you experience the lively atmosphere, vibrant music, and colorful costumes, you’ll feel transported back to the Incas’ time, deepening your appreciation for the enduring Incan heritage in Cusco.

3. SACSAYHUAMÁN

Located about 3 kilometers from Cusco, Sacsaywaman showcases Inca architecture and spirituality. This ancient site, translating to “falcon, satiate,” is key in the Inti Raymi celebration. As you approach, excitement builds; with numbered seating provided by the local government for optimal viewing. The ceremony starts at 1:30 p.m. and lasts 1 hour and 45 minutes. Sacsayhuamán’s backdrop enriches the tribute to the sun, connecting participants to the Inca legacy and nature. This ceremony offers a memorable immersion into Andean cultural richness.
