Departure is at 7:30 am, where our friendly English-speaking guide will greet you at the lobby of your hotel. Traveling in a private vehicle from Cusco, we’ll traverse the winding mountain roads that lead us to this sacred and awe-inspiring destination.

Our first stop will be at “Awanakancha,” an Alpaca Farm and Animal Sanctuary. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to observe and learn about the unique Andean animals that call this place home. 3th Day.- Machu Picchu Tour – Cusco.

Join us on an unforgettable Machu Picchu Tour! Experience the wonders of this ancient citadel as we begin the day by picking you up from your hotel in the morning. A short walk will lead us to the nearby bus station, where a scenic 25-minute journey will take us to the entrance of Machu Picchu. With the guidance of our knowledgeable tour guide, we will embark on a journey to explore the main square, the circular tower, the sacred solar clock, the royal enclosures, the temple of the three windows, the cemeteries, and the entire city. The tour will last approximately 2-3 hours, providing ample time to capture breathtaking photos.

After the tour, we will head back to the charming town of Aguas Calientes for a delicious lunch at one of the many renowned restaurants. In the afternoon, we will board the train at 04:45 p.m., departing from “Aguas Calientes” to Ollantaytambo. Upon your arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel in Cusco, marking the end of an incredible journey through Machu Picchu.

Arriving in Cusco.

Arriving in Cusco for 5-day Machu Picchu Classic Tour, can be done through the Cusco airport, but please note that it currently only serves domestic flights. If you are coming from an international destination, you will need to disembark in Lima and clear Customs before continuing to Cusco. It’s important to remember that even if you have a connecting flight to Cusco on the same day and with the same airline, you will still need to retrieve your bags in Lima and then check them in again.

For transportation to Cusco, air travel is recommended as the best option. There are several airlines to choose from, with LAN being one of the popular but more expensive choices. It’s worth noting that flight delays or cancellations can occur due to the high altitude weather conditions in Cusco. In such cases, air traffic may be temporarily halted. Alternatively, bus travel is available and can be a good option, especially if you are coming from a city closer to Cusco like Puno. Buses in Peru are well maintained and comfortable, although the journey from Lima can be quite long, taking approximately 20 hours.

Transfers in/out.

When you reach Cusco, our team will be waiting for you at the airport. Look for our representative with a white board displaying the SPT Travel & Tours logo at the arrival terminal. Once you meet them, they will transfer you to your reserved hotel.

For the return transfer, we will pick you up from your hotel 2 hours before the time specified in your airline tickets. The drive from your hotel to the airport typically takes around 20-30 minutes, but may vary due to traffic conditions. Once at the airport, you will need to check your flights and settle the airport taxes.

About the Altitude.

Altitude sickness is a common concern when traveling to Peru, especially Cusco. The air at higher altitudes has less oxygen, which means your body has to work harder to get the oxygen it needs. To help your body adjust, we recommend spending at least two days in Cusco before embarking on any Andes trek. Cusco is a vibrant city with plenty to explore, so you won’t run out of things to do while acclimating.

Altitude sickness can manifest as flu-like symptoms or hangover-like sensations. Headaches, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea or vomiting, dizziness, and difficulty sleeping or exercising are some common effects. If you experience any severe symptoms, please get in touch with our office, and we will assist you in consulting a doctor.

In most cases, these symptoms will be mild. To ease your adjustment, start your activities slowly and stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water or coca tea. It is advisable to limit your consumption of alcohol and coffee as they can increase urination and dehydration. Smoking should also be avoided as it hampers your body’s oxygen absorption. Many people overlook the need for gloves, but the cold and humidity can make the hike very uncomfortable. Additionally, be prepared for various microclimates during trekking in the Andes.
