• Then we have 3 hours travel by car from Cusco to the trail head.

05:30am – Pick up from your hotel in Cusco in our private vehicle and travel for approximately 3:30 hours through the Southern Valley to the trailhead at the community of “Quesiuno” (4,326 m / 14,189 ft).

Along the way, we’ll make stops for restroom breaks and any last-minute items you may need for the trip. Take the opportunity to enjoy some hot drinks or breakfast.

Once we arrive at the starting point, our hike begins alongside a picturesque stream. Prepare to be amazed by the abundant alpacas and llamas grazing in the area. As we proceed through villages, you’ll get to interact with the friendly locals and take in stunning views of the Ausangate Mountain.

Continuing on the trail, we’ll come across potato fields and encounter unique fauna such as chinchillas and Vicunas. Keep an eye out for these captivating creatures, as the Vicunas are the only non-domesticated animal of the llama family in Peru. Additionally, the vibrant red mountains along this part of the hike will leave you in awe.

After approximately 1:30 hours of hiking (covering 3 km), we’ll finally reach the Rainbow Mountains (5,020 m / 16,470 ft), the main highlight of our journey. So if you’d like a break from the trek and head back to the car stop, you can do so at any time.

The person accompanying your horse will lead it all the way up to the mountain, so you can just sit back and enjoy the ride.
