If you arrive before noon, you have the option to join our City Tour program, which starts at 01:30 p.m. and concludes at 06:30 p.m. in the main square. This will allow you to have dinner at one of the local restaurants. Day 2.- Inti Raymi Tour (Full Day):

Enjoy the Inti Raymi celebration, an amazing Inca festival held in Cusco, Peru. The tour starts at 08:30 a.m, where we’ll pick you up from your hotel and walk for ten minutes to the Inca Temple of Qoricancha. The festival consists of three different scenes in three different places. It begins at Qoricancha on Av. El Sol, just three blocks away from the Main Square. The second scene takes place in the Main Square. Please note that seating is not available, so we’ll be observing the feast standing up. The final scene is held in Sacsayhuman, located 3 km from Cusco. We’ll provide transportation by bus to Sacsayhuaman, where there are seats for spectators in the VIP Zone, offering a better view of the ceremony. EMUFEC offers additional services for attending the Inti Raymi, including comfortable VIP seating, hygienic mobile bathrooms, a first aid post, and police security. INTI RAYMI SETTINGS FOR THE CEREMONY:

The Inti Raymi festival consists of three main sceneries. We recommend arriving early to secure the best locations at Qoricancha and the Main Square.

2. Hauhaypata or the main square: In the Inca era, the main square was larger than it is now. It featured a beautiful Usno (ceremonial platform) where important festivities like the Inti Raymi were celebrated. The celebration starts at 11:00 am and lasts for one hour.

3. Sacsaywaman: A remarkable Inca temple located 3 km from the city of Cusco. It serves as the most significant venue for the Inti Raymi celebration, with government-provided numbered seats. The ceremony begins at 13:30 pm and lasts for 1 hour and 45 minutes.

THE INTI RAYMI CEREMONIES AND RITUALS:
  • Ceremonial Initiation

Essential Info About 4-Day Inti Raymi Tour.

Arrive in Cusco.

Upon your arrival in Cusco, the ancient city brimming with a rich tapestry of history and culture, you’ll immediately feel the enchanting allure of its cobblestone streets and well-preserved colonial architecture. Cusco, often known as the ‘Navel of the World,’ offers a unique blend of modern urban development intertwined with strong roots in Inca civilization, making it a destination that you simply cannot afford to miss.

If your journey is by air, you’ll be greeted by the Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport. This gateway located just outside Cusco’s city center is the first stop for many travelers. It’s here that you’ll notice the high altitude of over 11,000 feet, so it’s advised to rest and acclimate yourself in the city before exploring further.

Those who choose the overland route will not be disappointed. The journey from Puno, for instance, immerses passengers in the Peruvian landscape, bringing into view the breathtaking beauty of Andean valleys and mountains. Whether traveling by air or by road, Cusco promises a unique experience right from the outset, setting the stage for an unforgettable Peruvian adventure.

About Transfers in/out.

Upon arrival in Cusco, rest assured, our dedicated team at SPT Travel & Tours will be eagerly awaiting your arrival. Search for our representative holding a prominently displayed white board bearing the SPT Travel & Tours logo in the arrival terminal. They will promptly guide you to your reserved hotel, ensuring a seamless transition from your travels. When it’s time to leave, we’ll be there too. We’ll collect you from your hotel two hours prior to your flight departure time. Typically, the drive from your hotel to the airport takes approximately 20-30 minutes, but factors such as traffic conditions may slightly alter this duration. At the airport, remember to check your flight details and settle any outstanding airport taxes.

About Briefing:

Upon your arrival at the hotel, a comprehensive briefing will be conducted to provide vital details about the upcoming tour. This briefing is designed to equip you with information about the itinerary, safety measures, points of interest, local customs, and any special events scheduled during the tour. We strongly encourage your participation in this briefing to ensure a seamless and enriching tour experience. It’s not just a tour, it’s your chance to immerse yourself fully in a new culture and environment. Don’t miss the briefing. It will set the stage for the unforgettable journey that lies ahead.

The briefing, designed to guide you through your upcoming adventure, is a succinct yet comprehensive session, lasting approximately 30 minutes. Within this time frame, we will address all necessary information to ensure a smooth and memorable experience during your tour. Optimize this opportunity to clarify any doubts and to prepare yourself adequately for an immersive cultural voyage.

Store your large luggage while on the tour.

During your tour, you will have a large suitcase and a small backpack (30lts). To ensure convenience, the small backpack will be used throughout the tour, while the large suitcase can be securely stored at the hotel. It’s important to note that there are restrictions on baggage allowance, including overnight train journeys. Therefore, all suitcases taken to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu) must adhere to cabin size requirements. Any additional luggage can be safely stored at your hotel in Cusco. Rest assured, our team will promptly pick you up on the morning of your tour and return you to Cusco afterwards. Don’t forget to label your bags for easy identification.

About the Altitude.

Altitude sickness, a concern when visiting high-altitude destinations like Peru, particularly Cusco, occurs due to reduced oxygen levels at higher altitudes. The resulting symptoms, similar to those of the flu or a hangover, include headaches, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and trouble sleeping. If symptoms become severe, contacting our office for medical assistance is recommended.

To mitigate altitude sickness, it is advised to gradually ease into activities to allow your body to acclimate. Staying hydrated with water or coca tea, a beverage made from coca leaves that aids in oxygen transport, can be beneficial (available at the hotel). Alcohol, coffee, smoking, and sleeping pills should be avoided as they can lead to dehydration, hinder oxygen absorption, and disrupt breathing patterns.

Medications such as acetazolamide and dexamethasone may be prescribed by your healthcare provider to prevent altitude sickness. It is typically recommended to start taking these medications two days before reaching high altitude and continue throughout your stay.

About the weather.

When it comes to weather, Cusco, nestled in the heart of the Andes, is a study in contrasts and unpredictability. The rugged mountainous landscape dictates a climate that doesn’t conform to the conventional dry and wet seasons. While the dry season traditionally spans from April to October, a sudden downpour in June is not an anomaly, nor is a bright sunny day in the heart of December. As such, travelers are advised to be equipped with waterproof gear at all times — think jackets, pants, ponchos, and gloves.

The Andean region, with its myriad microclimates, demands a flexible approach to dressing. Layering is an effective strategy, allowing you to adjust your attire easily in response to fluctuating temperatures during tours and treks. Nighttime is consistently chilly, making a warm winter jacket an essential part of your luggage. A visit to the iconic Machu Picchu can feel like an accelerated journey through seasons — it isn’t uncommon to experience the sensations of three different seasons in the span of half a day!

The diverse climate of Cusco is not just limited to sudden changes in temperature and precipitation. The altitude also plays a major role in the weather patterns experienced by visitors. At an elevation of over 11,000 feet above sea level, the air is thinner and oxygen levels are lower compared to other popular destinations. As a result, travelers may experience altitude sickness, characterized by symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, and shortness of breath. To avoid discomfort, it is recommended to acclimatize gradually by spending a few days in the city before embarking on any strenuous activities.

Travel insurance:

Travel insurance serves as the golden key to safeguarding your much-anticipated vacation from unforeseen pitfalls. Imagine making all the meticulous plans, booking flights, reserving accommodations only to have an unexpected illness or an unfortunate incident disrupt everything. That’s where travel insurance steps in, offering an indispensable safety net. It provides substantial financial protection covering a wide range of circumstances, including trip cancellation, medical emergencies, or even baggage loss. Possessing travel insurance ensures peace of mind, allowing you to fully immerse in the joy of exploring the world. We strongly recommend securing travel insurance prior to departure; it’s a small price to pay for the immense benefits it offers. It’s not complex to acquire; a simple process can make all the difference between a crisis and a mere inconvenience. Remember, it is better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
