Day 2: Sacred Valley of the Incas.

We will pick you up at your hotel at 7:30 am, with our private van, and head towards the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Your first view of the valley will be at the Mirador of Taray, where you can enjoy a spectacular view of the Urubamba valley laid out before you, complete with traditional farming communities in the valley floor and mountain peaks rising at the end of the valley. One hour after our departure, we will arrive at the market of Pisaq, where you can purchase items directly from the producers. Later, we will visit the Inca ruins of Pisaq. Here, the guide will explain all about the Incas. The tour continues traveling through the Sacred Valley until we reach the town of Urubamba, where we’ll stop for lunch. From there, we’ll proceed to the town of Ollantaytambo, where we’ll explore a beautiful Inca site. We will overnight here and prepare for the adventures of the following day.

Days 3 to 6: Hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu

Embark on an incredible journey by hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. After an early breakfast, we’ll take a scenic bus ride for one hour to Km 82 or Pisqhakuchu, the starting point of our adventure. As we arrive, we’ll meet our team of skilled porters and chef. With your passport in hand, we’ll head to the checkpoint and begin our trek. The majority of the gear will be carried by the porters, allowing you to enjoy the hike with a small daypack containing essentials like water, rain gear, snacks, and a camera.

The Inca Trail spans 45km, and each person can set their own pace. The second day presents the most challenging section as we conquer the highest point known as Dead Woman’s Pass, reaching an elevation of 4,200 masl. On the third day, we’ll immerse ourselves in the beauty of the trail, encountering a variety of landscapes and numerous Inca ruins to explore. On the final day, we’ll rise early to witness the breathtaking sunrise at Machu Picchu and explore the awe-inspiring ruins before the crowds arrive from Cusco.

Throughout the Inca Trail, we’ll encounter several small Inca ruins, starting with Llactapata, an impressive site featuring magnificent terraces and an advanced irrigation system. At Warmiwañusca, or Dead Woman’s Pass, which stands at an elevation of 4,200 masl, we’ll face a challenging climb. From the second pass, positioned at 4,000 masl, you’ll be treated to spectacular vistas on clear days, offering an incredible view of the snow-capped Vilcabamba Mountain Range, including the towering Salkantay Mountain (6,271 masl), as well as a glimpse of the previous Dead Woman’s Pass.

The trail takes you through enchanting cloud forests on a gentle climb to the third pass (3,600 masl), where you’ll venture through an ancient and well-preserved Inca trail. From there, we’ll continue our descent to Machu Picchu, a journey of approximately 45 minutes, before embarking on a guided tour of this awe-inspiring ancient city.

The Inca Trail Itinerary

Day 3.- Km 82 to Llulluchapampa

Your adventure begins at Km 82, where the official start of the Inca Trail marks the beginning of an unforgettable journey. From this starting point, you’ll embark on a trek through a scenic Andean valley, following the gentle curves of the Urubamba River. As you advance, the trail will introduce you to local agricultural terraces and small villages, where traditional farming methods are still practiced. • A Good Pair of Hiking Boots or Walking Shoes – This is not the place to bring high heels, ladies! Steps and uneven cobblestone surfaces abound, and if it rains, the stones can get slippery.
• A Poncho for Those Downpours – The weather changes very quickly here. An ideal solution is to carry a good quality poncho in your daypack at all times, particularly during the rainy season from November to March.
• A Warm Jacket – Evenings and mornings can be very cold, particularly between June and September, so a good quality, waterproof, and ideally windproof jacket is essential. Another good option is a warm fleece which you can wear under a lightweight waterproof, windproof jacket.
• Good Quality Sunscreen and a Sunhat – Due to the altitude and Peru’s location close to the equator, frequent application of sunscreen is advised to avoid any nasty sunburn.
• Clothes That You Can Layer – Cool mornings mean you may want to wrap up as you set off for a day’s exploring; however, by 11am, you might want to strip down to a t-shirt and shorts. Warm layers and trousers that can be unzipped into shorts are great.

THE BRIEFING

Briefing for the 10-Day Sunrise Peru Tour package will be held the night before the trek at 6 pm in either our office or your hotel. During the briefing, you will meet your trekking guide and have the chance to ask any questions or address any concerns. Additionally, you will settle the remaining balance of the tour.

Out of the 7 kilos, set aside 2 kilos for your sleeping bag and 1 kilo for your mattress (foam or air). This leaves approximately 4 kilos for your personal gear. The porters will transport your duffel bag along with food and camping equipment, but keep in mind that you won’t have access to your items until the end of each day. During the hike, you’ll need a day pack that can fit your personal belongings like a warm jacket, raincoat, camera, sunscreen, snacks, water, etc. A 30 to 40L backpack will suffice.

IS THE TREK DIFFICULT? DO I NEED TO BE IN GOOD SHAPE?
