Essential Info
Essential info About 2-Day Patabamba Trek
Arriving in Cusco:
When arriving in Cusco for 2-Day Patabamba Trek, it is important to note that the Cusco airport is exclusively for domestic flights. Therefore, international visitors arriving by air must go through customs in Lima. Even if your flight to Cusco is operated by the same airline on the same day, you still need to retrieve your bags in Lima and check them back in.
The most preferred mode of arrival in Cusco is by plane, with multiple airlines to choose from. LAN Airlines, although more expensive, offer a wider range of flights. It is worth mentioning that disruptions and cancellations are not uncommon due to the high altitude in Cusco, which can affect plane landings based on weather conditions. Another option is to take a bus; however, it is important to consider that the journey from Lima can take up to 20 hours. While Peru buses are generally comfortable, it is best to avoid this option if possible. Traveling from nearer cities such as Puno or Arequipa would be much more practical.
The briefing about 2-Day Patabamba Trek.
We cordially invite you to our pre-trek briefing, an essential gathering that offers comprehensive details about your 2-Day Patabamba Trek. This informative session will take place on the eve of your trek’s departure, precisely at 6:00 PM. The venue, subject to confirmation upon your arrival in Cusco, will either be our official office or the convenience of your hotel. This is an opportune moment to quench your curiosity and resolve any uncertainties related to the trek. Our experienced guides will be at your disposal, ready to provide persuasive insights into the trek’s itinerary, expectations, and invaluable tips. Step into this exciting session to fully prepare yourself for an unforgettable journey into the heart of nature’s grandeur.
About your Luggage:
For your convenience, we offer a luggage service to ensure a hassle-free trekking experience. Before the trek, you have the option to store any excess items either at your lodge in Cusco or with us. Rest assured that your bags will be securely stored throughout the duration of your trek and will be promptly returned to you upon your return. To facilitate easy identification, please ensure that each bag is properly tagged.
About the Altitude:
When traveling to Peru, particularly Cusco, many people have concerns about altitude sickness. Higher altitudes have less oxygen in the air, which means that the body has to work harder to get the necessary oxygen levels. To help your body adjust, we recommend spending at least two days in Cusco before embarking on any treks in the Andes.
Altitude sickness can have symptoms similar to a hangover or flu, including headaches, fatigue, loss of appetite, vomiting, nausea, dizziness, and difficulty sleeping or breathing during exercise. If you experience severe symptoms, please contact our office immediately for medical assistance.
Fortunately, most people only experience mild symptoms. However, if you engage in strenuous activity without allowing your body enough time to adjust, you may become ill from altitude sickness during the 2-Day Patabamba Trek. It is also important to avoid excessive consumption of coffee or alcohol, as they can dehydrate your body. Additionally, smoking should be avoided as it hinders the efficient absorption of oxygen by the body. It is recommended to refrain from taking sleeping pills, as they can lead to shallow breathing during sleep, which hampers the body’s oxygen absorption.
In some cases, your doctor may prescribe medications such as acetazolamide and dexamethasone to help prevent altitude sickness before starting your ascent. Along with following the aforementioned precautions, such as staying hydrated and progressing at a moderate pace, allowing your body to adjust gradually, you can enjoy every step of your journey and minimize the risk of altitude sickness.
The Weather:
The weather in Cusco can be quite unpredictable. While the months between April and October are typically dry, there can still be variations in precipitation and sunshine. It is important to come prepared with the necessary rain gear, such as a waterproof jacket, pants, and poncho. Additionally, don’t forget to bring gloves in case of cold or humid conditions. Keep in mind that you may experience different seasons throughout your trek, so having various layers of clothing that you can adjust according to temperature changes is essential. Lastly, a cozy yet portable padded jacket will be beneficial when the night falls.
Porter staff included:
Our camping excursions include a dedicated team of porters who will handle all aspects of setting up campsites and transporting equipment. They will also be responsible for carrying the duffel bag provided during the pre-trek briefing for your 2-Day Patabamba Trek. It is important to note that each individual travel bag should not exceed 7 kg / 14 lbs and must contain both your sleeping bag and air mattress. Rest assured that our experienced porters will ensure a smooth and enjoyable trekking experience for you.
Duffel bag for 2-Day Patabamba Trek.
The duffel bag provided for the 2-Day Patabamba Trek is of limited size, ensuring convenient transport of your clothes during the hike. Please keep in mind that the maximum weight allowed for the bag is 7 kg/15.4 lbs. Rest assured, the responsible horsemen will carry your duffel bag from one site to another, while different horses will be assigned to transport sustenance and camping equipment. It’s important to note that access to items inside the duffel bag will not be available until the end of each day’s route, as the horsemen and horses generally stay ahead of the group.
Travel insurance:
Travel insurance is a small investment that can yield enormous protection. Unforeseen circumstances or emergencies can arise at any time, disrupting your travel plans. With travel insurance, you can protect the money you’ve invested into your trip. It’s a safety net, providing coverage for situations such as medical emergencies, trip cancellations, or lost baggage. Moreover, securing travel insurance is a breeze. It can easily be purchased before you set off on your journey, giving you peace of mind as you embark on your adventure. We strongly recommend that you consider this vital step in your travel preparation.
