Arriving in Cusco.

Arriving in Cusco for 4-day Cusco Adventure Tour, can be done through the Cusco airport, but please note that it currently only serves domestic flights. If you are coming from an international destination, you will need to disembark in Lima and clear Customs before continuing to Cusco. It’s important to remember that even if you have a connecting flight to Cusco on the same day and with the same airline, you will still need to retrieve your bags in Lima and then check them in again.

For transportation to Cusco, air travel is recommended as the best option. There are several airlines to choose from, with LAN being one of the popular but more expensive choices. It’s worth noting that flight delays or cancellations can occur due to the high altitude weather conditions in Cusco. In such cases, air traffic may be temporarily halted. Alternatively, bus travel is available and can be a good option, especially if you are coming from a city closer to Cusco like Puno. Buses in Peru are well maintained and comfortable, although the journey from Lima can be quite long, taking approximately 20 hours.

Transfers in/out.

When you reach Cusco, our team will be waiting for you at the airport. Look for our representative with a white board displaying the SPT Travel & Tours logo at the arrival terminal. Once you meet them, they will transfer you to your reserved hotel.

For the return transfer, we will pick you up from your hotel 2 hours before the time specified in your airline tickets. The drive from your hotel to the airport typically takes around 20-30 minutes, but may vary due to traffic conditions. Once at the airport, you will need to check your flights and settle the airport taxes.

About the Altitude.

Altitude sickness is a common concern when traveling to Peru, especially Cusco. The air at higher altitudes has less oxygen, which means your body has to work harder to get the oxygen it needs. To help your body adjust, we recommend spending at least two days in Cusco before embarking on any Andes trek. Cusco is a vibrant city with plenty to explore, so you won’t run out of things to do while acclimating.

Altitude sickness can manifest as flu-like symptoms or hangover-like sensations. Headaches, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea or vomiting, dizziness, and difficulty sleeping or exercising are some common effects. On the second day, you’ll depart for a bike tour through the sacred valley of the Incas. You’ll visit “Moray,” a wonderful Inca site, and the salt mines of “Maras.” Lunch is included. You will head out on the road that crosses the Sacred Valley of the Incas to reach Moray archaeological site, elevation 3,176 meters, where enormous Pre-Incan circular and semi-circular agricultural terraces were constructed.

From Moray, you’ll move onwards to the town of Maras (elevation 3,028 meters) to visit the biggest salt pans in the region that have been mined continuously since the Inca times. Then, you’ll explore the Inca site of Ollantaytambo. Late in the afternoon, we’ll ride the train for two hours to the town of Aguas Calientes; you’ll have an overnight here, and the next day, very early, we’ll visit the iconic Machu Picchu.
