On the vast majority of our trips, you must bring your own luggage. Most travellers use a small suitcase on wheels, although the most suitable type of luggage will vary depending on the trip and destination.

  • Main luggage
  • Day pack
  • Padlocks and keys

Personal Items

  • First aid kit
  • Medications / personal prescriptions

The Packing List

After asking our customers who have been traveling around Cusco and Machu Picchu, we have come up with our definitive list of what to pack for a trip to Lima, Arequipa, Puno, Cusco and Machu Picchu.

  • A Good Pair of Hiking Boots or Walking Shoes – This is not the place to bring high heels, ladies! Steps and uneven cobblestone surfaces abound, and if it rains, the stones can get slippery.
  • A Poncho for Those Downpours – The weather changes very quickly here. An ideal solution is to carry a good quality poncho in your daypack at all times, particularly during the rainy season from November to March.
  • A Warm Jacket – Evenings and mornings can be very cold, particularly between June and September, so a good quality, waterproof, and ideally windproof jacket is essential. Another good option is a warm fleece which you can wear under a lightweight waterproof, windproof jacket.
  • Good Quality Sunscreen and a Sunhat – Due to the altitude and Peru’s location close to the equator, frequent application of sunscreen is advised to avoid any nasty sunburn.
  • Clothes That You Can Layer – Cool mornings mean you may want to wrap up as you set off for a day’s exploring; however, by 11am, you might want to strip down to a t-shirt and shorts. Warm layers and trousers that can be unzipped into shorts are great.
  • A Day-Pack to Carry All Your Bits and Pieces – Ideally with a hip strap to make long days hiking and exploring more comfortable.
  • A Water Bottle – Plastic disposal is a real problem in the Sacred Valley, so we recommend you buy large bottles and refill water into your own reusable bottle.
  • Small First Aid Kit for Basic Cuts and Bruises and Tummy Upsets – Pharmacies abound in Cusco and other small towns in the Sacred Valley where you can buy basic first aid and medical supplies. Ensure that you bring enough of any prescription medicine you might need, as some brands and types of medicine might not be available in Peru.
  • A Small Pocket-Sized Torch
  • Earplugs for when you are stuck in a noisy room or want to sleep on the bus or plane.
  • A Duckpack or Rainproof Covering for Your Daypack or Backpack – This is particularly important if you are going to do any multi-day hiking, including the Inca Trail.
  • A Hat, Scarf, and Gloves for Those Cold Mornings and Evenings – You can buy fabulous Peruvian style hats and gloves at the local markets, so don’t worry if you forget to bring these with you.
  • Pack Your Toiletries in Zip-Lock Bags – The altitude can cause shampoo and other bottles to pop, leaving a nasty mess in your bag. Pack all toiletries in sealed bags to avoid any unnecessary mess.
  • Insect Repellent – Particularly if you plan on going trekking or visiting Machu Picchu.
  • Camera – With lots of memory and battery for all those great shots you are definitely going to want to take.
  • Padlocks – Take enough padlocks for every double zipper to stop wandering hands and lock up your important belongings, even in your hotel room.

10 kilos suitcases:

When it comes to traveling, one of the most important things to consider is your luggage. The amount and type of baggage you bring can greatly affect your travel experience. Whether you’re going on a short weekend trip or a long-term vacation, having the right suitcase is crucial. One common measurement for suitcases is weight, with many airlines having strict restrictions on how much baggage you can bring without incurring additional fees.

This has led to the popularity of the “10 kilos suitcase”, referring to a suitcase that weighs 10 kilograms or fewer when fully packed. But what exactly can fit into a 10 kilos suitcase? It may seem like a small amount, but with smart packing strategies and careful selection of items, you can actually fit quite a lot.

Essentials such as a week’s worth of clothing, a pair of shoes, toiletries, and even a compact travel guide can all be accommodated within this weight limit. By rolling clothes to maximize space, opting for travel-sized toiletries, and wearing your bulkiest items during transit, you can make the most of your 10 kilos suitcase and travel light without skimping on what you need.

Essential Info.

Essential Tour Info About 16-Day Peru Tour Package

Please read the following tour information carefully, as it will help you answer some of your questions about our services and the 16-Day Peru Tour package.

Arrival in Cusco

You will be met at the Cusco airport and taken to your hotel. Please inform us of your flight details at least 14 days before your arrival. Look for our representative with a “SUNRISE PERU TREK” sign in the airport. Note that you need to leave the airport or terminal to find our representative as they cannot enter.

The Briefing

Briefing for the 16-Day Peru Tour package will be held the night before the trek at 6 pm in either our office or your hotel. During the briefing, you will meet your trekking guide and have the chance to ask any questions or address any concerns. Additionally, you will settle the remaining balance of the tour.

Can I Store My Luggage in Your Office?

Yes, you can absolutely store your luggage in our office! We understand that when travelers embark on the 16-Day Peru Tour package, they are likely to have multiple bags with them. To make things easier for both us and you while on the trail, we recommend that only the necessary items be brought in small duffel bags that we provide. This way, your main luggage can remain safely stored until you return from this amazing experience. Alternatively, if it’s more convenient for you, your luggage can also be kept at your hotel.

Can I Change the Date After I Purchase the Ticket?

Unfortunately, the answer to your question is a definitive NO. The Peruvian government does not allow any changes to be made after tickets have been purchased. This means that neither the date nor the person who purchases the ticket can be changed once it has already been bought. The permits are also non-transferable and non-refundable, so if you choose to cancel your 16-Day Peru Tour package, then your deposit will not be refunded in any form whatsoever. It’s important to double-check your plans before making a purchase to ensure they won’t change afterward, as changing them later is not possible under any circumstances according to Peru’s government regulations. To avoid disappointment, it is strongly recommended that everyone makes sure their itinerary is firm before submitting payment and buying their permit, even if something beyond their control comes up afterward, there will no longer be an option for changing those plans without having lost that money.

Do I Need My Original Passport?

Yes, you absolutely need to have your original passport for the 16-Day Peru Tour package. This is because of the importance of having the exact same passport that you provided with your booking permit before entering Machu Picchu and for the Inca Trail. Your passport will be verified when you enter Machu Picchu, when embarking on the Inca Trail, and also while boarding your train. If you are renewing your passport, feel free to send us a copy of your old passport prior to getting a new one so that we can secure the permit beforehand – and then once you get it, kindly send us a copy of it as soon as possible. Being aware is extremely important in this kind of situation due to all restrictions enforced by Peru authorities having strict regulations revolving around documentation required for entering such sites – such as passports being mandatory during check-in times at these archaeological areas – so do keep in mind that it’s best if you have two original copies available (one extra just in case).

The Duffel Bag

duffle bagBefore your trek, you’ll receive a duffel bag to pack your clothes for the five-day journey. The duffel bag can weigh up to 7 kg / 15 lbs to comply with Peruvian law and protect the health of the Inca Trail porters. All bags will be weighed before acceptance. If you exceed the weight limit, you’ll need to carry the extra weight in your personal backpack. Out of the 7 kilos, set aside 2 kilos for your sleeping bag and 1 kilo for your mattress (foam or air). This leaves approximately 4 kilos for your personal gear. The porters will transport your duffel bag along with food and camping equipment, but keep in mind that you won’t have access to your items until the end of each day. During the hike, you’ll need a day pack that can fit your personal belongings like a warm jacket, raincoat, camera, sunscreen, snacks, water, etc. A 30 to 40L backpack will suffice.

Is the Trek Difficult? Do I Need to Be in Good Shape?

Yes, the trek is difficult, and you must be in good shape. It is a 45 km (26 miles) long hike through the Andes that reaches a maximum altitude of 13,779 ft (4200 m). On the second day of the hike, we’ll climb two mountains. You should be moderately fit prior to starting this trek, and it is highly recommended to exercise regularly for several months before embarking on this journey. Try walking 9 miles or 15 km per day as part of your preparation regime. It’s also important to acclimatize yourself to altitude before beginning – aim for 2–3 days in Cusco (3350m / 11,047ft) beforehand. Doing so will reduce any chances of developing complicated health issues such as acute mountain sickness while on the trail. Overall, being well-prepared and having a good physical condition are key elements for completing this adventure with success! So don’t underestimate the importance of training and being in good shape before taking on this challenging trek. Trust us, your body will thank you later!

What If I Can’t Complete the Trek?

The chance that you won’t be able to complete the 16-Day Peru Tour package is pretty slim, but it’s always wise to prepare for any situation. In the unlikely event where this happens due to health reasons, our team is ready and well-equipped with oxygen kits in case of any breathing difficulty, and helicopter evacuation can also be arranged at a cost. Travel insurance is required as there are no refunds either way. You will be taken to the nearest city and will receive help with transportation to Cusco or “Aguas Calientes” depending on the situation. If you make a quick recovery after being taken off the trail, it’s possible that you can still visit Machu Picchu according to your original plan by taking a train from Ollantaytambo (at an additional cost).

However, if you’re not up for continuing, then simply enjoy Peru and its cultural sites! The main priority is always your safety and well-being, so don’t hesitate to communicate with our team if you have any concerns or difficulties during the trek. Remember, there are always alternative options available and we are here to assist you every step of the way. So don’t let this possibility discourage you from embarking on this incredible journey! With proper preparation and caution, completing the trek should be a rewarding experience that will stay with you for a lifetime. Good luck and happy exploring!

Cancellation Policy

Our cancellation policy states that the 16-Day Peru Tour package is non-refundable and cannot be modified under any circumstances.
