SALKANTAY TRAIL PERU
….¡¡¡ make your way to Machu Picchu on the Salkantay Trail Peru !!!…
Salkantay Trail Peru is a wonderful trekking route in Peru, it’s considered to be the best alternative to the traditional Inca Trail for reaching Machu Picchu. The trek crosses the Salkantay Pass at 4,600 masl or 15,200 ft, descends into the cloud forest and passes the Inca ruins Llactapata, with a view of Machu Picchu. You will start the trek hiking through glaciers and finish the hike down in the jungle. It’s usually a 5 day/4 night-trek and you can book it through numerous tour agencies.
Forget the Inca Trail if you don’t get permits and instead make your way to Machu Picchu on the Salkantay Trek. With far fewer tourists, more dramatic scenery and spaces available, it’s the best option for smart travelers. Although it’s a more difficult route past the Salkantay pass at 4,600 meters about sea level, over four days you’ll pass snowy mountains, soaring condors, tropical forests, thundering rivers and thermal pools before you finally make it to one of the greatest wonders of the world: The stunning Machu Picchu.
The Salkantay Trail Peru offers a different experience to the Inca Trail and delivers the best views of the Umantay and Salkantay Mountains as well as superb hiking; also, you don’t need porters, we will use pack animals, such as horses and mules. You get really close to the majestic Mt Salkantay, and it’s possible to stay either in lodges or camp.
This versatility is another trump card. More intrepid travellers not afraid to rough it can opt for an inexpensive camping trek, with each day ending at fully catered, pre-prepared campsites. Even if you are on a budget though, you’ll still experience a few hours of the good life, the trek includes a half-day excursion to natural hot springs on the outskirts of the small town of Santa Teresa during three days.
It’s important to note the Salkantay Trek doesn’t lead directly to Machu Picchu though it does still culminate at the site following a brief transfer from nearby “Aguas Calientes/Hot Waters” on the final morning.
