Embark on an exhilarating trek starting from Cusco. Journey through Pitumarca and visit the majestic Sivinaccocha Lake, the largest in the region. Conclude the day in Quehuar, captivated by the awe-inspiring landscapes and breathtaking beauty of the trail.
Day 2: Quehuar – Explore Qelccaya Glacier – Quehuar – Cusco.
Begin the day with a healthy breakfast followed by a 30-minute ascent. Traverse a vast plain and climb a rocky area. Walk on snow as you approach the magnificent Quelccaya wall. Enjoy the stunning scenery before descending back to the starting point of the hike. Indulge in a delicious lunch and return to Cusco by car.

DETAILED ITINERARY FOR QELCCAYA TREKKING
Our two-day Qelccaya Trekking , have been carefully chosen to include the best night stops and highlights. However, as local and operational conditions may vary and unforeseen circumstances can arise, the following itinerary should be used as a guideline.
Day 1.- Cusco – Pitumarka – Sivinaccocha Lake – Phinaya – Quehuar.
On Day 1 of this incredible trekking journey, we’ll begin our adventure by picking you up promptly at 5:00am from your hotel in the captivating city of Cusco. If you’re staying elsewhere, please coordinate the details when you book. From there, we’ll embark on a thrilling expedition in our private car, heading towards the fascinating village of Pitumarka. The scenic drive will take about 2 hours, and upon arrival, we’ll enjoy a delicious breakfast. This will also be a great opportunity to purchase any necessary items for our trekking adventure.
After breakfast, our journey continues by car, immersing ourselves in the picturesque landscape for around 4 and a half hours. Our destination is the breathtaking Sivinaccocha Lake, located at an impressive altitude of 4,600 meters above sea level. This remarkable body of water is the largest lake in the region, covering an area of 29 square kilometers, and is surrounded by awe-inspiring mountain scenery. We’ll cross over the pass of JAHUAYCATE 5070/16634fts, pausing to explore and capture stunning photographs, immersing ourselves in the sheer beauty of the landscape.
Once we’ve absorbed the magnificence of Sivinaccocha Lake, our adventure will take us to the enchanting campsite of Quehuar, nestled at an elevation of 4,850 meters above sea level. Here, we’ll set up comfortable tents, ready to rest and rejuvenate before continuing on this remarkable trekking journey.

Day 2.- Quehuar – Explore Qelccaya Glacier – Quehuar – Cusco.
Day 2 of the trek begins with an early breakfast in the camp. Get ready for an invigorating and challenging morning walk amidst rocky formations and ice-water rivers. The trek starts at an elevation of 4,850 meters above sea level, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding snow-capped peaks. We will cover a distance of 5 kilometers (approx.), taking a leisurely pace and enjoying the scenic beauty along the way. The trail gradually ascends, providing magnificent vistas of the mountains and wildlife until we reach the majestic Qelccaya Glacier. Take your time to explore the glacier and capture memorable moments through photographs. We will retrace our steps back to the camp for a delicious lunch before boarding our car for the return journey to Cusco. Expect to arrive at approximately 8:30pm. Join us on this unforgettable trekking adventure!

Our 2-day Qelccaya Trekking tour requires a non-refundable trek deposit of US$100 per person. The fastest and most secure form of payment in Peru is via WESTERN UNION or to our BANK ACCOUNT money transfer. All payments should be made in the name of SUNRISE PERU TREK TOUR OPERATOR E.I.R.L. Once you have arrived in Cusco, the remaining balance must be paid in cash prior to beginning your tour – we accept both US Dollars and Peruvian Soles (local currency). For 2-day Qelccaya Trekking, the night before your trek there will be a pre-trek talk (briefing) in our office or in your hotel at either 6 or 7pm (exact time will be confirmed on arrival to Cusco).
When is the best time to visit?
Best time to do Qelccaya Trekking
You should know that Cusco is Located in the Andes. Like most treks in the region of Cusco, the best time to do 2-day Qelccaya Trekking is from May to October, during the months is dry season in the Andes, allowing for sunnier weather and clearer days to enjoy the scenic beauty. The driest months of the year are between June and August. The dry season is also the high season for the region, so Cusco, Machu Picchu, and the Inca Trail tend to be more densely populated. Fortunately, the remote Qelqaya Trek is a unique option, avoiding the crowds year-round, even during peak season.
The rainy season in the Andes is between November and April, with the rainiest months being from January to March. During this time, especially in February, the rains can be torrential, which can lead to trail closures. It is best to stick to the dry season or the low season (mixed weather) of April and October. Throughout Qelccaya Trekking, temperatures range from 10-25 ° C during the day if the weather is good, to 05-10 ° C during the day if there is no suny. Given the high altitude of the campsites, temperatures drop considerably in the afternoon and especially at night, when they can drop to -10 ° C or even lower in the dry season.
